Now offering online services, we are thrilled to reach those further afield who normally would be unable to attend daily in-person sessions. |

Our students work one-on-one with experienced, thoroughly trained clinicians. We strive to match each student with a clinician whose unique gifts and background make learning at Northwest Reading Clinic effective and fun. Our clinicians include individuals with a wide range of skills, interests, and expertise. All have experience working with children in the field of education and all have been thoroughly trained in our specific methods of instruction. All Northwest Reading Clinic staff have a Bachelor's degree, and many also have teaching credentials or Master's degrees. The majority of our staff have been with our clinic for ten years and more, and we are proud to provide treatment from seasoned clinicians with long and experienced service records. All staff have also passed a thorough background check.
In 2002, Northwest Reading Clinic paired with The Smith Foundation. In so doing, we are able to offer the same services free of charge to two North Portland public schools. We are grateful to The Smith Foundation for their continued partnership, which aids us in serving students in these under-resourced schools.

Personal Statement: As a young woman, my dream was and still is to help as many children and adults as possible. When I come to work and hear a child say, 'Thank you for teaching me to read,' or a parent say, 'You saved his life,' I have renewed conviction. It’s true. We change lives. Our work is important and necessary.

Diane MW Budden, M.S. Ed., began her work as a literacy tutor at Cuesta College in California in 1977. In 1978 she was hired by Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes® where she served as a staff member and consultant for seven years working directly with Pat and Charles Lindamood®, who developed the Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing® (LiPS®) program to treat phonological awareness difficulties, and Nanci Bell®, who developed the Visualizing & Verbalizing® (V/V®) program to treat comprehension problems.
In 1984 she married and subsequently relocated to Portland, Oregon where she opened Northwest Reading Clinic, Inc. She continued to be affiliated with the Lindamood-Bell® organization by co-teaching several workshops with both Nanci Bell® and Pat Lindamood® in California and Oregon. She also served as a guest speaker at their national conferences and has assisted in teaching specific learning remediation techniques in their workshops. Although no longer affiliated with Lindamood-Bell®, Diane has taught many workshops over the past 20 years and currently has two offices in the Portland metro area where trained clinicians use a variety of techniques and programs to treat students with learning disabilities.

I grew up in a family of educators. After earning my Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Puget Sound I followed up my studies at Lewis and Clark to earn a Master's degree in Teaching. Northwest Reading Clinic is an ideal work environment for me. My co-workers are smart, fun, and compassionate, and I consider them family. Working with children every day is a blessing and something that brings me joy. It is incredibly rewarding to help students learn to read. I remember reading Dr. Seuss books when I was five, being so proud when I finished James and the Giant Peach (my first chapter book!) in elementary school, and falling into novels like Gone With The Wind, Shogun, and My Antonia in high school. My daily intention is to give students the skills to read so they have the opportunity to read anything that captures their interest or imagination. As the Assistant Director of Northwest Reading Clinic, my greatest joy is retesting students upon completion of their instruction and knowing I am sending them out the door with a greater opportunity to succeed.
